Rob is a mobile software engineer with 10+ years experience. He's based in Brazil and has been working with Remotely for over a year, where he's found a career path with room to grow.
Finding a career path through Remotely
“When I first started talking to Remotely, they mentioned my open source work – and it was amazing to see that.” He felt like it both indicated they cared about understanding his skillset, and also ability to work as a team.
His experience taught him that Remotely cares about more than just matching a developer’s skillset to a role. He’d started interviewing with one company, but Remotely ultimately introduced him to Allurion, believing that it was a better fit for Rob’s career aspirations. Rob wasn’t just looking for a role as a software developer—he was looking for a career path and room to grow. Rob chose to join the team shortly after that, becoming the first engineer there after his boss. “There is a lot of room to grow…I think Remotely realized that Allurion was in better shape to provide [me] the chance to get other positions [than other companies looking for developers with his skillset].
Remotely is a great company because it has great people working there. They are really trustworthy. Whenever they promise something, they do it. When you need help, they are there.
Remotely’s platform and culture of continuous improvement
“[Remotely is] constantly, constantly working on a platform where you can communicate better with the company,” Rob explained, citing an improved and more streamlined process for invoicing, reimbursable expenses, and more. “They’re not only putting the right people into the right companies, Remotely itself is getting more mature as a company. They think about how they can improve their processes in order to help people. So at the end of the day, it’s all about people - and this is really nice. [Knowing that] makes us more comfortable staying here and not looking for any other position.”
There’s not anything that didn’t go smoothly, to be honest. Since the first interview until now, everything has been working perfectly.
His role as a mobile engineer in Health Tech
“We are helping people lose weight and be healthier.” Rob describes his team as “amazing.” He explains that “It's not a big team. I mean, we may be about 20 engineers, but it's still, we have a ton of cool work to do.” Since he joined the team, they’ve “embraced this quest of redoing all of the mobile work” – redoing the platform and transitioning from native apps to using flutter.
Since joining, Rob has been a part of the team’s regular off-sites. “We usually travel to meet the whole team because [the team] it's spread all over the world. I mean… we have people from the U.K, the U.S., Costa Rica. So they get everybody together in this place to do some work and have some time together.” Rob has been to Costa Rica, Miami, and most recently to the company headquarters in Boston, where the team got more familiar with the physical hardware portion of their product, seeing how it is manufactured. It’s an opportunity Rob is really grateful for.
Working with good people and having this good working environment—this is the most important thing. And this is what I found both at Allurion and Remotely. So it's really cool.
